“The History Gang,” a stellar cast of four associated with the Ottawa Storytellers group, will bring glimpses of the American Civil War as seen from the North, South, U.S. and Canada to the St. Albans Historical Society & Museum on Aug. 9.
The St. Albans Raid & Other Songs and Tales of the Civil War will take place Saturday, Aug. 9, from 7 to 9 p.m. in The Bliss Room at the museum, located at 9 Church St.).
The story tellers will cover how the war touched a few individual lives including: a letter from a soldier killed at the Battle of Bull Run; a song about two brothers who fought on opposite sides; the story of the escape of a Southern ship from a Yankee blockade at Halifax; and music from the war including: “Rally Round the Flag,” “Tramp Tramp Tramp,” “Bonnie Blue Flag,” “Dixie,” “Battle Hymn of the Republic,” and much more about that seminal moment in our history.
While this is strictly museum-sponsored, it is touted as a warm up event for the St. Albans Raid 150th Anniversary Commemoration being held in St. Albans from Sept. 18 to 21 (visit stalbansraid.com).
Suggested donation for the Ottawa Storytellers performance is $10, all ages.
